Creativity: Rethinking Care for Aging and Dementia explores how creativity can shift the way we connect with and support older adults and people living with dementia.
Drawing on the Arts & Aging Network’s approach and real-world experiences, the presentation looks beyond traditional ideas of care to focus on connection, strengths, curiosity, adaptability, play, and meaningful participation. Participants will explore how simple creative approaches can help us meet people where they are, build relationships, and create moments of purpose, joy, and belonging.

A Non-Clinical Approach to Aging and Dementia
This presentation explores the important role non-clinical approaches can play in supporting older adults and people living with dementia. Drawing on the Arts & Aging Network’s work, Erin shares how genuine connection, curiosity, flexibility, creativity, and a focus on individual strengths can create meaningful experiences without being clinical or therapeutic.
Through stories and practical examples, the presentation challenges us to look beyond diagnosis, limitations, and traditional ideas of care, and instead focus on the person, their abilities, interests, and opportunities to connect, contribute, and participate.
