What is the Sunshine Singers initiative?

The Sunshines is a heartwarming initiative that uses the power of music to bring joy, connection, and emotional well-being to seniors in care settings.

This is more than passive entertainment for residents, it is an opportunity for social engagement and participation with our artists.

In small, dynamic groups, our artists will visit senior homes to engage residents through lively songs and meaningful interactions.

Whether performing in common areas or moving room-to-room for more intimate experiences, the Sunshines aim to create an uplifting atmosphere that fosters joy, companionship, and connection.

Group sessions are approximately 1 hour in length in a common area of the home, or in a specific unit. We offer an optional second hour to do room-to-room visits (for isolated individuals who are recommended by staff).

What are the benefits of this program?

For Seniors: The Sunshine Singers provide a joyful escape and a sense of community, helping participants reconnect with their past through music while fostering new, meaningful social experiences.

For Artists: This program offers artists an opportunity to use their talents in a meaningful way, bridging the gap between the arts and care. By engaging directly with seniors, they develop their professional and personal skills while making a tangible difference in people’s lives.

How does it work?

We are currently booking to the end of 2026. Long-term care, personal care homes and community groups can book a visit by filling out our booking form.

Key features of this program:

Personalized Musical Engagement

We focus on familiar, uplifting songs that evoke cherished memories, encouraging residents to participate by singing along, clapping, or simply enjoying the music. Each session is tailored to the needs and preferences of participants, creating a welcoming and inclusive environment.

Training for Artists

Participating artists will undergo specialized training to enhance their communication, empathy, and engagement skills, ensuring they can form genuine personal connections with seniors while promoting a positive outlook on aging and dementia.

Fostering Emotional Well-Being

Beyond entertainment, the Sunshine Singers program emphasizes meaningful interactions that nurture the spirit, enhance emotional well-being, and help combat isolation. By weaving together art and care, we aim to brighten the days of those in senior homes.
