Sunshine Singers
Youth
The Sunshine Singers is a heartwarming initiative that uses the power of music to bring joy, connection, and emotional well-being to seniors in care settings.

Key features of this program:
Personalized Musical Engagement
We focus on familiar, uplifting songs that evoke cherished memories, encouraging residents to participate by singing along, clapping, or simply enjoying the music. Each session is tailored to the needs and preferences of participants, creating a welcoming and inclusive environment.
Training for Artists
Participating artists will undergo specialized training to enhance their communication, empathy, and engagement skills, ensuring they can form genuine personal connections with seniors while promoting a positive outlook on aging and dementia.
Fostering Emotional Well-Being
Beyond entertainment, the Sunshine Singers program emphasizes meaningful interactions that nurture the spirit, enhance emotional well-being, and help combat isolation. By weaving together art and care, we aim to brighten the days of those in senior homes.
What is The Sunshine Singers initiative?
The Sunshine Singers is a heartwarming initiative that uses the power of music to bring joy, connection, and emotional well-being to seniors in community and care settings.
A group of auditioned young people (ages 12–17), the Youth Sunshines bring energy, creativity, and connection to our dementia-inclusive programs.
Through meaningful performances and shared experiences, they gain valuable life skills and build lasting bonds across generations.
This is more than passive entertainment for residents, it is an opportunity for social engagement and participation with our artists. In small, dynamic groups, our artists visit senior homes to engage residents through lively songs and meaningful interactions.
Whether performing in common areas or moving room-to-room for more intimate experiences, the Youth Sunshine Singers aim to create an uplifting atmosphere that fosters joy, companionship, and connection.
Group sessions are approximately 1 hour in length in a common area of the home, or in a specific unit. We offer an optional second hour to do room-to-room visits (for isolated individuals who are recommended by staff).

What are the benefits of this program?
For Seniors: The Youth Sunshine Singers provide a joyful escape and a sense of community, helping participants reconnect with their past through music while fostering new, meaningful social experiences.
For Youth: This program offers artists an opportunity to use their talents in a meaningful way. Performing regularly in front of others also helps youth singers grow their self confidence. By working with older adults, youth develop emotional intelligence, and a deeper appreciation for different lived experiences.
How does it work?
We are currently not taking any bookings for the Youth Sunshines, as the Avalon Youth Sunshines is a seasonal program.
This program does not need to be seasonal in other communities, so if you live in a community with a large youth population and you think this program would be of interest to them, please reach out!
When bookings are available, long-term care, personal care homes, and community groups can book a visit by filling out our booking form.
Youth Sunshine Alumni
as they grow older, we hope this experience stays with them and helps shape who they are!
