Vernon Curran
Board of Directors
Vernon Curran is a Professor of Medical Education at Memorial University’s Faculty of Medicine, where he has spent much of his career helping shape how future doctors and health professionals learn.
For nearly a decade, he served as Associate Dean of Educational Development, supporting faculty and programs in advancing teaching and learning. He has also led key initiatives as Director of Academic Research and Development in Professional Development and as Director of the Centre for Collaborative Health Professional Education.
Vernon has been active nationally as well, serving as Chair of the Association of Faculties of Medicine of Canada’s Committee on Continuing Professional Development and as a member of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Association of Medical Education. With academic backgrounds in psychology, adult education, health studies, and educational technology, Vernon’s research explores digital health and learning, simulation in medical education, interprofessional education, and program evaluation. He also teaches in the areas of adult learning, medical education research, and interprofessional collaboration.
Over the years, his contributions have been recognized with several national awards, including the 2024 Dr. Ian Hart Award for Distinguished Contribution to Medical Education (CAME), the 2019 Dr. Dave Davis Award for Research in Continuing Medical Education (SACME), and the 2003 CAME Junior Award for Contribution to Medical Education.
